FUSCHIA 2009
Fuschia is an indie film directed by Joel Lamangan. The cast include Gloria Romero, Iza Calzado, Eddie Garcia and Robert Arevalo. Gloria Romera plays the most demanding part of the film whose character struggles in the face of love and morality. The plot is focused on Mameng (Gloria Romero) who is abandoned by her husband, Eloy (Eddie Garcia) to join the US Navy. In the years of his absence, his bestfriend, Gener (Robert Arevalo) falls in love with Mameng. But unexpected events occur when Eloy returns bearing a new name and riches from his exploit. The three find themselves living in one house. The community is scandalized with their actions, a woman living with two husbands is not acceptable in society. But Love is unreasonable and it makes you do things out of the ordinary. There is no limit in love no matter how old we are.
It is curious to think that title is based on a color. It may be a symbolism portrayed when Eloy as Mars returns with a Fuschia dress as a homecoming present for Mameng. Although the story is not all about the unconventional love triangle. It is also about the socio-political aspects of society. The film is not your usual cup of tea, but you will be drawn and entertained with its comical view of life and how love is endured by time.
A story about an old woman, a cool hip Lola who likes the color Fuchsia, must deal with her old siblings in matters of life.
Fuschia tells the story of Maneng (Gloria Romero), a 62-year old woman who for the past 40 years is living-in with Gener (Robert Arevalo), her husband's (Mars played by Eddie Garcia) best friend when the latter left her when he joined the U.S. navy. Mars never communicated with Mameng for four decades and Gener took over the role of her husband. Suddenly, Mars arrived from the States and decided to spend the rest of his ailing days with Maneng much to her surprise and Gener's chagrin. Mameng opted to an unusual set-up of having the three of them live in one house. Her family (especially her sister Juana played by Armida Siguion-Reyna) and townsfolks consider it a big scandal but Mameng with all her noble intentions stood by her men. The simultaneous deaths of her two "husbands" made her rediscover her inner strength - and to fight for truth and justice!
