  Wendy se dirige hacia Alaska, con la única compañía de su perra Lucy, para incorporarse a un nuevo y lucrativo trabajo en una fábrica de conservas de pescado. Cruzando el estado de Oregón, su modesto Honda Accord de los 80 se niega a continuar. Con este aparentemente insignificante incidente se inicia el calvario de Wendy; uno de tantos millones de norteamericanos que se encuentran a un pequeño resbalón del abismo económico.
