This is a thoroughly joyous album. Joao's kid is, once again, in fine form. [Bebel is not Astrud's child]. This is pure sensory experience, sexual without being sexually explicit [after all, this is Latin jazz, not rap]. Happy intermixture of Portugese and English, and I think Bebel's English is pretty good.
Most of these tracks won't be familiar to an American audience, though Bebel does a fine job with Cole Porter's "Night And Day". Bebel is no Ella, but then Ella was not Bebel, either. We really don't need "familiar" with albums that are about feeling. There are several singers of this genre around currently; Bebel is certainly as good as the best.
